The king, the devil and the princess
Since the beginning of the festival, the legend has ridden through the wind. In the middle of Quimper`s river Odet, eight flags stand in memory of this marvellous tale. King Gradlon, ruler of the town 'Is' (now Dournenez) had a libertine and rebellious daughter, princess Dahut. As a devilish manhunter, she couldn`t resist for long the advances made by the handsom man in the form the devil himself. He asked the princess to steal the keys to the town from her father in exchange for his love for. As soon as he cunningly obtained the keys, he opened the gates of the town causing massive flooding, submerging the town. Advised by Saint-Corentin, he decided to punish his daughter by leaving her to drown in the tidal waves. Fleeing the city, Gradlon arrived at the place where two rivers merge between seven hills. He settled at the confluent of the two bodies of water and baptised his new town Kemper - Brittany`s meeting place.
