Match of the Chefs
This year, the Brotherhood of the food loving Cornouaille, comprising restaurants, suppliers and other representatives of other catering industries have all taken a stand. Every lunch-time, each in turn, (a "friendly" between chefs), will prepare bits and pieces of their most professional meals for about fifty people.
Singing, dancing and music in Britanny
The Festival aims to reunite children of various celtic circles in Quimper and her three "bagadid" with the DIWAN choirs (1 400 children taught from primary school age until the end of the fifith year). Secondly, the body Eostiged Ar Stangala, presented and brought to light by Patrick Le Doaré and Jo Nédélec.
Tuesday 23, place de la Résistance at 9.30pm
The works of eight artists at the "Chapeau Rouge" cinema will be on display proposed by Kemper (Quimper in Breton), - Cornouaille painters : Marcel etc, etc... Oils, water, pastel, wash-painting - all the different techniques blend together to celebrate Britanny and the sea. Expo open every day, from 10am-7pm, in the presence of an artist for any possible commentaries.
The "Bill " of René Quéré
As last year, it's the painting of the two singers by René Quéré who is responsable for the Festival posters.
A Nocturnal Litterary Rendez-Vous at the "Ar bed Keltiek" Book-shop
Thursday 25th between 2pm and 5pm, exhibition and plan of a celtic coracle. From 5pm-8pm, Gilles Servat will be signing his CD, "Sur les quais de Dublin" and his book "La navigation de Myrdhyn". Friday 26, at the "Central Halls", Martial Ménard will be presenting his Breton, erotic dictionnary and "Contes grivois de Haute-Bretagne" (Saucy tales from higher Britanny). Louis Grall will also be present to present to introduce his book, "Le port de lassitude" (The port of weariness).
The Absent St Joseph Pipe Band
The St Joseph Pipe Band have let down the Festival. The Irish group withdrew from taking the trip to Britanny. Too many of this singers found themselves too tied up with their own work. The Moulin-Vert and the Kurun group pipe band will replace the declining band.
Night in the old quarters
Friday from 7pm, a traditional evening of the old quartiers with sixteen music and dance groups, artisans, storytellers, ragoût tastings (a meat stew), and fish in the old town where the streets will certainly open up your appetite : rue des Boucheries, rue du Sallé, place au Buerre..... 30-F Entry.
A big evening with Davy Spillane, the virtuoso of the "uillean" pipe, the Irish bagpipe which is played sitting down, with a very individual sound. Also invited, "De Jimbe" (on the percussion), and the dance group "Ceide", + scenes from the show "Riverdance" - which met with great success in London.
Procession of the Disguised Bretons, "Abadenn Veur", A Triumph of Singers
2500 participants and sixty celtic groups will cross the old part of Quimper on Sunday from 10.30am. After the bagpipes solo competition, drums competition for the McLeod trophee, "l'abadenn veur", (the grand assembly), reunites 2000 participants in a huge round from 2pm onwards. This display of dance and music will be followed at the same place : la place de la Résistance, by the Gradlon danse trophy, and at 6.30pm, a singing trophy along the boulevards of the Odet. This display is followed by Breton and Irish singing and dancing through the old quartier of Quimper.
Closing down of the Displays with Alan Stivell
Sunday at 9.30pm - with his group and the "bagad", Saint-Marc from Brest. A "fest-noz" evening with the group Ker O'Zen will draw the day and the festival to a close, at Saint-Corentin from 10pm onwards. The "Passport" card (600F) entiltles you to access to all the displays. Breton Dancing Training Couses
Breton dancing courses offered to learners of the Breton culture at the "Tour d'Auvergne" over the duration of the festival. A different type of dance is taught every day from 9.30am-12pm, and from 2pm-5pm. Open to young people with already a little experience or those with "fest noz" inbuilt in their legs!!
