La place Saint Corentin (Saint Corentin Square)
Vital core of the closed city, it surrounded the primitive church, the bishop house
and the castle that the King Gradlon would have given to Saint Corentin. One may
imagine some markets, a first graveyard in the north and gallows on the square where were executed sentences rendered
by the court of Réguaires, under the high justice of the bishop. All around the square some inns, hotels, prebendal
houses. But nothing remains from the medieval time except the drawing of the streets and the urban structure at the
beginning of the square. None of the houses offered to our modern gaze is earlier to the achievement of the cathedral (end
of theXVth century).
